Grocery Delivery: Tips for Grocery Shopping During COVID-19 Pandemic

With the “Safer at Home” orders and serious health concerns surrounding COVID-19, simple tasks like grocery shopping have become a little more difficult. Here are some tips and resources to hopefully make your lives a little easier if you are looking to have groceries delivered to your home.

FINDING A DELIVERY WINDOW

Try checking for new delivery windows after midnight when time slots for a new day are released.

AUTOMATE YOUR SEARCH FOR A DELIVERY WINDOW

Try searching for a script that automatically refreshes your window for you, allowing you to focus on other tasks. Here is a link to the script that I found and have been able to utilize successfully. NOTE: This script only works with Safari on Macs for Amazon Fresh/ Wholefoods.

ORDER THROUGH LOCAL RESTAURANTS OR RESTAURANT WHOLESALERS

Big box stores are being bombarded. Now is an opportunity for us to support our local communities and the business owners that have consistently provided us with the things we love. We may not be able to dine in physically, but many restaurants have pivoted to delivery services and grocery boxes.

The amount of information out there right now can feel overwhelming, so I’ve compiled resources for you so you can better plan your shopping list and strategy. Here are some articles with links to restaurants & wholesalers you can order from throughout Los Angeles:

OPT FOR A LATER DELIVERY DATE

I’ve been told that some delivery services allow you to opt for a later delivery date. If you are able to plan your shopping list and cart ahead, you can skip coveted “fast” delivery options.

SUPPORT YOUR DELIVERY DRIVERS

When it comes to tipping, please consider tipping your delivery drivers. They are putting themselves at risk in order to help and support others. I have heard stories about people bait and switching drivers with the lure of high tips, and then changing them to $0 after the delivery. Please, don’t be like those people. If you can’t spare a lot at this time, even a small tip is better than retracting a tip.

HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS & SHARE YOUR GROCERY DELIVERY TIPS

If you know of any resources, or have tips, that are not mentioned, please share in the comments section to help your fellow neighbors.

Even more importantly, remember that you are not alone. If you need help, please reach out. Take care and be well!
